Legal Counsel – land

Position Overview:

 

Looking for Land Legal Manager to join our legal team. The Land Legal Counsel will play a critical role in supporting the company’s land acquisition, leasing, and permitting activities for renewable energy projects. This position requires expertise in real estate law, contract negotiation, and regulatory compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Contract Negotiation and Management:

  • Negotiate agreements with landowners, government agencies, and other stakeholders involved in project development.
  • Review and analyze contracts, easements, and rights-of-way related to land use and access.
  • Develop standardized contract templates and guidelines to streamline the contracting process.

Land Acquisition:

  • Identify and evaluate potential land parcels for renewable energy projects.
  • Negotiate and draft purchase agreements, leases, and other legal documents related to land acquisition.
  • Conduct due diligence investigations to assess title, zoning, environmental, and regulatory issues.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, and landowners to facilitate land transactions.
  • Permitting and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Guide project development teams through the permitting process for renewable energy projects.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to land use, zoning, and environmental permitting.
  • Advocate for the company’s interests in regulatory proceedings and permit applications.
  • Monitor changes in land use regulations and advise on potential impacts to project development.

 

Risk Management and Mitigation:

  • Identify legal risks associated with land transactions and project development activities.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Provide guidance on land-related disputes and participate in resolution efforts.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Cultivate positive relationships with landowners, community members, government officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Address concerns and inquiries related to land use, property rights, and project impacts.
  • Represent the company in public meetings, hearings, and community outreach events.

 

Qualifications:

 

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Admission to the state bar and in good standing.

Minimum of 10 years of experience practicing law with a focus on real estate, land use, or energy development.

Strong understanding of real estate transactions, property law, and regulatory frameworks.

Experience negotiating complex contracts and agreements.

Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.

Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Prior experience in the renewable energy industry is preferred but not required.
